About

Håkan Hardenberger and Karl McFaul venturing into the concept of Neutron Music.
When you find yourself at a cross-roads, together with several minds sharing the same bright idea of which direction to explore, then it’s time to catch the opportunity of having an influential team ready to realise the best outcome of our exciting future.
In my work with communications and corporate identity at the ESS office in Lund, I’ve been playing some with the concept of “Neutronica” to accompanying a visual company profile with an auditive ditto – A soundtrack for the European Spallation Source. Meanwhile, my former colleagues at the City of Lund’s culture department were working on the bid for Lund’s application to become European Capital of Culture 2014 (where Umeå eventually scored the title).
The popular Swedish entertainer Johan Wester had found out about my double nature of arts & science works and was chasing me for some project ideas to the Lund 2014 bid. Sooner than I manage to make me a new cup of coffee he suddenly stood there in my office with Lund 2014’s project developer Albin Balthasar and the world famous trumpet player Håkan Hardenberger (a man whos masterclasses I used to sneak into during my time at the conservatory in Malmö just to hear his excellent seminars on trumpet technique, even though I was studying the piano..).
On this very sunny day in the summer of 2009, our cheerful little group of creative people gathered around the idea to create a Neutron Music Festival in Lund. I saw the potential to build a forum around the development of new arts under the concept of “Neutronica”. We are right in the beginning of developing new forms of art to be presented on this blog where you are most welcome to contribute with your work, ideas and knowledge in the domain of arts & science. You’ll find my email address here to the right –>
With a giant world centre for materials science and accelerator physics being built in the north of Lund, a city where ancient European history meets cutting edge science and technology, we have perfect breeding grounds for innovation through interaction between science, business and culture. In this sweetspot of the Öresund and Copenhagen area, Neutronica will tell you the stories from the sound !
